The recently extended clubhouse at Royal County Down now houses a professional’s shop which is the equal of any in the country and the Club is fortunate to have associated with it a Head Professional and assistant professionals of such experience and expertise as John Murray and his staff. They pride themselves in being able to satisfy almost all the requirements of members and visitors for golfing equipment and tuition. They are the first point of contact for visitors – please call at the Professional’s shop on arrival, where they will be glad to welcome and help you.

John Murray, Head Professional and Director of our Golf Operations Team, is a highly qualified P.G.A. Professional who has recently earned the prestigious P.G.A. Director of Golf qualification. A native of Newcastle, John played to a +1 handicap before turning professional in 2010. That same year, he joined Portmarnock Golf Club as Senior Assistant, where he successfully completed his P.G.A. training.
John returned to the Club in 2013, serving as Senior Assistant for 11 years. His expertise and dedication earned him the unique honor of being invited to Augusta National as support staff during the 2016 Masters. As a recognized teacher with a growing reputation in the sport, John provides exceptional coaching to our Members and guests, further enhancing their golfing experience.
Lee is our Senior Assistant Professional and joined the Professional team in 2021 upon completion of his PGA training. He has a keen interest in merchandising, junior coaching and has a real passion for putting. Lee coordinates many coaching camps throughout the year and gives lessons to golfers of all abilities.
He is a regular competitor on the Irish PGA circuit and hopes to continue competing in events throughout the year. Lee hopes to continue developing and is nearing completion of his PGA Director of Golf Qualification.
